Balloon Effect

How does a 20% tax on imports equal "Mexico pays for the wall"?

Trade barriers and protectionism don't work.  It's been proven in theory and historically.  The problem with wage inequality is not fixed by "a tax on imports".  It doesn't make it more economical to build things here or hire American workers.

Trade agreements that force trading partners to treat their employees well are the only ways we can help our workers:

  • Enforce a fair wage (no sweat shops or slave labor)
  • Enforce proper benefits (foreign workers that get similar benefits put us on even playing field)
  • Enforce worker safety and worker compensation

Workers' Rights are Human Rights.  Get ready for the rust belt to get rustier.
